Be selfish for once

Updated: May 7, 2020

Now that you are back to work somewhat, it’s going to take a while to adjust to the new reality. Sure, I understand the pressure from the uncertainties, and your concerns are valid. However, now is the time to think about yourself a little.

Yes, it’s Ok for you, the employee, to be a little selfish once in a while, since it takes a happy employee to do a good job. Doesn’t it?

I’ll go straight to the point with the three factors I think you should consider to stay ahead of the curve now and post-COVID-19.

Get a new stream of income

I am sure you’ve been thinking about it. Now is the time to do something about it. Take a good audit of your skillset, contacts and the opportunities available, and make a business of providing something you know people need. Get a new stream of income.

Will it make people richer, happier or wealthier? Then, do it!

It could be catering, knowledge sharing or even music. Whatever the idea is, make sure it’s going to make people richer, happier or wealthier.

Start from where you are

Contrary to popular belief, you have something to start with. No, this is not a motivational talk. It’s a reality. Perhaps, the problem is: you are eyeing that N200 million business, which will require a loan and a lot of planning.

Start moving! The first move may not always be it, but it will surely lead to something and then maybe another thing, before leading you to that thing.

And don’t think you must do what you love doing at the beginning. It doesn’t always work like that. Sometimes, you venture into a business because there’s an opportunity there. That will buy you the time to plan for what you want to do. Moreover, you could build solid relationships from that.

Get to doing and don’t forget that we are here to develop a solid digital strategy for your business. Social media is a good way to connect with your customers.
